About The Position

Supports all senior Design staff. Answers to Creative Director (CD) and Art Director (AD) and is supervised by the Lead Designer (LD) of their Design Team. The Pre-Production Designer position is entry level into the Art Department and works on projects as assigned by senior Design staff to support the Art Department workflow. Their primary focus is processing approved designs through to the Production Department for manufacturing by building out templates, and creating designs with custom or proprietary projects.

Essential Job Functions
  • Follow all art direction and critique from project manager CD/AD, with guidance from the LD, completing all projects in a timely manner adhering to assigned deadlines, department processes, and procedures.
  • Daily check-ins with LD, providing updates on progress, approval status and alerting of any foreseeable risks.
  • Expand upon existing artwork provided by AD/LD and/or build-out original production-ready designs to apply to various products and templates as assigned.
  • Responsible for all aspects of a product, including digital files, embellishment specifications, and tracking of product to final sample stage.
  • Follow product to completion with a strong sense of urgency. Review and comment on samples, update documents with accurate and detailed information, and follow-up with LD regarding revisions and product comments.
  • Critical attention to detail in art preparation, art quality and embellishment specs.
  • Uphold highest standard of organization in personal workspace and in digital workspace/files.
  • Follow Art Department protocol and guidelines set forth by the CD.
  • Make clean, neat, product mock-ups with the highest quality standard possible.
  • Work as part of the Design Team and perform all tasks with positive attitude, sense of urgency, and dedication to the company aesthetic and standards.

The goal of the Pre-Production Designer should be to support the design staff and should be considered as training program for ascending to the position of Designer.

Requirements
  • BFA, BA or Associates Degree in Design, Illustration, Fine Arts (or related field) or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with design products
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
  • Experience creating professional mock-ups preferred

Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Extensive, hands-on knowledge of Macintosh platform
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently while playing close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to take constructive critique well.
  • Flexibility in artistic style – able to create art with many different looks.
  • Knowledge of surface pattern design, textile design and pattern repeats.
